Postcards from the Hiking and Knitting tour between Fire and Ice 2015 or the Fog Ladies

Skogarfoss1

The last tour of the summer ended last week and while I’m preparing for the autumn, here are some pictures of this year Hiking and knitting tour between Fire and Ice. I’ll be posting pictures of the previous tours over the next few days!

IcelandicTurFarmBeaver1

At the Icelandic Turf House, my Love Story yarn ended up in a beaver made by Hannes for his grand-father. The blind Old man described it it to his grand-child who made quite a good job, don’t you think? The beaver measures exactly 1 liter of water and can stand on its own without spoiling water.

ThingborgLambsLopi

Plant-dyed wool and lambswool lopi from Thinborg are always a favourite!

FishSkinButtons1

Fish skin buttons in the making, perfectly matching the Westfjord Green of my Gilitrutt yarn!

The adorable Skógar Museum: thanks Brooks for the tour!

At the Skógar Museum, you can see the shoe-insert that inspired me my Flowerpot “blanket coat”.

We had rain and an unusually amount of snow, due to the very long and late winter this year.

We had fog: here the Fimmvörðuháls’s hut is just above us but we can’t see it yet.

And more fog: the Báldvin’s hut where we are spending the night is just ahead of us but we still can’t see it. We are the fog ladies!

We had a very special knitter during the tour: designer Mary Jane Mucklestone was with us! She is the author of excellent books about Fair Isle knitting  and she runs knitting tours in Shetland with her designer friend Gudrun Johnston. It was not her first time in Iceland and during the tour she conquered her fear of heights! Yay!

MJ modeling the Flowerpot sweater (not the coat), a design from my book Icelandic Color Knitting. My soft Gilitrutt yarn would be perfect to knit this sweater and many other designs  from the book.

I keep my Love Story and Gilitrutt yarn in my great-grand-mother’s travel chest.
