More enveloping than a snood, Gára is a snug collar that covers the shoulders and can also be worn as a hood. The easy colorwork is enhanced by the mottled wool Einrúm (lopi + silk), alternating with delicate bands of Stocking stitch with the very fine Icelandic lace Love Story. The use of yarns of completely different weights as well as different size needles give the collar relief reminiscent of roped lava. Gára means folding in Icelandic.
Love Story is an exceptional lace yarn created by Hélène Magnússon. It is a very fine 1 ply lace weight yarn made of soft Icelandic lambswool carefully selected by Hélène from Icelandic sheep farmers. Love Story knits beautifully into very delicate and ethereal lace shawls and reminds of the old handspun yarns that Icelandic lace is known for.
Einrúm E by Kristin Brynja is a lace weight yarn made of lopi and thai silk. Twinned together, the result is an incredibly soft and airy yarn, as light as the unspun Icelandic yarns and as strong as the silk. It comes in an array of earthy colors obtained by mixing natural wool colors with 4 threads of silk.
