KBG08 Kristin Brynja tell about her inspiration: “When I was a young girl, I often had the good fortune of going camping with my grandparents. My grandfather was a great lover of nature and had an avid interest in rocks and stones. He had a considerable collection which he had arranged carefully in display cases in his basement. Columnar basalt was one of the rock formations my grandfather taught me about as we traveled the country, explaining how the columns formed as the lava cooled. The pattern of the hat and the scarf refers to the columnar basalt in different heights and proportions, which vary according to where on the body the pattern appears.”
