The einrúm cardigan is a descendant of the traditional woolen sweater made from Icelandic wool, the beloved wool that has kept Icelanders warm though the ages. The garment follows the body’s contours and adjusts to its shape. With time, the ﬁt becomes looser, but the cardigan regains its ﬁtted shape when washed.
A reference tension gauge appropriate for a medium sized sweater is shown in the pattern. The size can be adjusted by using larger or smaller needles.

NEEDLES:
Body: 4 mm (US6) and 5 mm (US8) circular needles
Sleeves: Set of double ended 4 mm (US6) needles and a short 5 mm (US8) circular needle

SNAP FASTENING BUTTONS: 10 x 15 mm

GAUGE, reference for medium size: 10 cm = 17 sts
10 cm = 20 rnds

MEASUREMENTS, medium sized cardigan (reference):
Note that the garment has a lot of give and ﬁts both small and large.
Half bust width: 40 cm Body length to top edge of collar: 100 cm Body length to underarms: 60 cm Sleeve length to underarms: 52 cm

METHOD:
• The body is worked ﬂat and the button band is worked simultaneously on smaller needles.
• The sleeves are worked in the round.
• Sleeves and body are joined on one circular needle at the armholes and the yoke is worked ﬂat with raglan shaping.
• Snap fastening buttons are sewn onto the button band 10 cm apart. It is best to begin by sewing all snap buttons onto one of the fastening-bands with the correct spacing. For the other fastening-band, sew on the top snap button and close it. Next fasten the bottom snap and close it. Then fasten the middle snap and close it. Continue in this way always fastening the snap closest
to the middle. This ensures that the button bands don’t ripple or overlap.
