My knitting holidays, a perfect crochet steek and Autumn book giveaway!
Mes vacances de tricot, un steek au crochet et un livre d’Automne à gagner!
Autumn is there – at least in Iceland – and as I am about to publish a bunch of new patterns, I’d like to share with you the projects I knit during our 2 weeks holidays in Normandy this summer. I wanted them to be really peaceful holidays, with no work involved at all, so I let all my personal projects and designs at home and knitted after two favorite designers patterns for a change!
L’automne est bien là, du moins en Islande, et alors que je suis sur le point de publier plusieurs nouveaux modèles, j’aimerais vous montrer ce que j’ai tricoté pendant les deux semaines de vacances en Normandie que nous avons prises cet été. Je voulais de vraies vacances bien reposantes, sans quoique ce soit qui ressemble à du travail, alors j’ai laissé tous mes projets personnels à la maison et tricoté en suivant les instructions de deux de mes créatrices préférées, pour changer un peu!
I got the yarn during the Hiking and knitting tour with the Elves this summer: I just couldn’t resist the beautiful green… and purchased 8 balls without knowing at all what I was going to do with them – I’m sure many of you know the feeling… Navia, pure wool from the Faroe: a blend of Shetland, merino and Faroe wool. Afterwards I eventually selected 2 patterns I wanted to knit but of course the gauge didn’t match at all.
J’ai acheté la laine pendant le Tricot trek au Pays des elfes cet été. Impossible de résister à ce vert et j’ai acheté 8 pelotes sans trop savoir ce que j’allais faire avec… (cela vous rappelle quelqu’un?) Navia, pure laine des îles Feroe, un mélange de laine Shetland, merino et Feroe. Plus tard j’ai sélectionné deux modèles mais la gauge ne convenait pas du tout bien sûr…
My first project was the lovely beret Crowning Glory from my friend Susan Crawford‘s book, Coronation knits (I had blogged about it previously). The yarn the pattern called for was thiner so I cast on 1/4th less sts, suppressed a few rounds and one eyelet pattern in the brim and only made 3 pattern repeats. I love love love it and I love the color!
Le premier modèle est l’adorable béret Crowning Glory du livre de Susan Crawford, Coronation knits ( j’avais bloggé dessus cette année). Le fil que le patron demandait était bien plus fin donc j’ai monté 1/4 de mailles en moins, supprimé quelques rangs et un tour d’oeillets et répété le motif dentelle seulement 3 fois. J’adore ce béret … et la couleur est parfaite pour me donner du peps!
The pretty cardigan Twigs and Willow was my second project. It’s from Alana Dakos’s (Never Not Knitting) book, Botanical Knits. This time the pattern called for a thicker yarn so to compensate I knitted a size bigger but followed the lengths from my size and modified the sleeves and armholes that were too narrow. The sweater is knitted into pieces and sewn but I couldn’t help knitting it in the round and steeking it, as we usually do in Iceland. I found it made it easier to knit a perfectly symmetrical cable motif. Because I was on holidays and didn’t have a sewing machine I used the crochet steek method and I’m very happy on how it turned out! Very clean finitions, don’t you think?
Le second modèle est le cardigan Twigs and Willow (Brindille) du dernier livre de Alana Dakos (Never Not Knitting), Botanical Knits. Cette fois-ci le fil employé était plus gros, alors j’ai tricoté la taille au-dessus mais en suivant les longueurs de ma taille, et modifié les manches et emmanchures qui étaient du coup trop étroites. Le cardigan est tricoté à plat en pièces à assembler mais je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher de le tricoter en rond et de le couper, comme on fait en Islande. J’ai trouvé que cela facilitait un travail parfaitement symétrique pour le motif de cables. Comme j’étais en vacances sans machine à coudre sous la main, j’ai utilisé la méthode du steek au crochet et je suis très contente du résultat. Finitions hyper propres, vous ne trouvez pas?
