Here is Rósir another mitten pattern from my Grýla Collection. Rósir means roses in Icelandic and is the way we call the eight petal rose motif. But you will find it under different names in other countries: snowflakes, stars, it is in fact the most popular pattern in the world, interpreted in many many different medium, from beads to weaving, printing, carpeting, etc…
My Rósir mittens remind of the Nordic-style mittens very popular in older times, knitted with fine handspun Icelandic wool often in two colors, white and black or white and brown. Knitted in an array of colors inspired by Icelandic nature, they have a refreshingly modern flair. The colors in Rósir were inspired to me by arctic thyme that grows in the highlands in Iceland. And then I couldn’t help trying other color combinations: some blues like the blue mud in the hot springs. And red because Xmas is around the corner! I have a fourth color combination on the needles as I talk!
The pattern can be purchased from my website or on Ravelry. The pattern has written instructions and color chart and includes pictorial step by step instructions for special techniques. There is only one medium size listed but you can achieve more sizes by changing needle size: according you get the gauge correct!
Rósir kits are also available on my website! But of course, you are welcome to make your own color combinations with Grýla Tvíband yarn: I designed the colors so they all go well together!
