Veiðistafur

The Veiðistafur hat has its name from the magical Icelandic stave it is decorated with and that brings luck in fishing (from veiða, to fish). Like most staves, it will be effective only if you follow certain instructions, many of them being rather bloody. For the Veiðistafur to work “it should be drawn in wren’s blood on a caul with a pen made of a raven’s feather. Then put it in a gimlet hole under the prow of your ship and you will always have a good catch”. This pattern was first published in my Icelandic Yarn Club 1 in 2019.
Yarn used: Léttlopi or any Aran weight yarn such as Einrúm L or double plötulopi

Gauge: 10 cm / 4” = 20 sts and 25 rnds in Stocking st
Needles: 4.5 mm / US 7 circular needle (you can also use double pointed needles)
Notions: darning needle, markers.
Techniques: The hat is knitted in the round from the brim to the crown in stranded knitting.
