DESIGNER: HELENE MAGNUSSON
Frjókorn sweater is probably the airiest, softest and quickest lopi sweater I have ever made. Knitted on large needles at an unusually loose gauge, it uses only one strand of unspun lopi held together with my very fine Icelandic Love Story lace. It gives it strength and extra softness, and also makes for the delicate light marled grey colour. The contrasting motif uses Léttlopi.
It is also my first lopapeysa knitted from the top down, not a traditional method for a lopi sweater. The yoke is growing with different types of carefully placed increases that are an integral part of the leaf motif and thus completely invisible. The sweater has an almost imperceptible shaping and a true neckline at the front. But no short rows involved: I’m using a method inspired by Icelandic male costumes from the 18th century.
Instructions are for a cardigan with a sweater option.
Frjókorn means pollen in Icelandic.
