DESIGN: The saga afghan is a blanket designed by Tinna þórudóttir Þórvaldsdóttir, an Icelandic crochet artist and designer. She shares her time between Cuba and Iceland and you can see influences from both worlds in her work. More about her on her website here. There you will find links to many tutorials and videos on how to work the mosaic crochet.

Baby blanket 80 squares: 60 cm/ 23.5” long and 48 cm/19” wide. The border then adds 2.5 cm/1” on each side.
Gilitrutt Tvíband by Hélène Magnússon (2 ply pure new wool, 100% Icelandic lambswool 122 yds / 112 m – 25 g).
For a 80 squares baby blanket, you need 7 skeins of MC (main color) in one color and the equivalent of 4 skeins of CC (contrasting color) in the colors of your choice.
In the colorful sample shown, Tinna used all the 20 colors of Gilitrutt + 6 extra of one of the colors (the Natural white) for MC.
1 Gilitrutt skein/25g = 15 squares in MC and 25 squares in CC
1 square = 2.5g and needs approx. 8 m of MC and 4.5 m of CC
