You like to knit, you like cross-stitch? You will love the traditional mittens from the fjord of Skagafjörður, embroidered with old Icelandic cross-stitch, presented her in a modern and easy version made by Ingibjörg Ólafsdóttir.

“These embroidered mittens are inspired by a tradition that can be traced back to 19th-century Skagafjörður. I had a lot of fun knitting them, not least because they are a quick knit. When I was unemployed for a few months, I spent some time experimenting with knitting and Icelandic wool. I’m very interested in Old Icelandic culture and old craft patterns in particular. I based the embroidery on the back of these mittens on some old embroidery motifs I found at the National Museum; I visited the museum a number of times and each time I would adjust my own design a bit. These mittens give me an opportunity to play around with different color combinations so the creative possibilities are almost endless. They are not only fun to knit but also make great presents.” says Ingibjörg.

Yarn used: Léttlopi from Ístex and Einband from Ístex for the embroidery
